If you spend scarce Hero Points on the wrong thing, you can't refund them and try again, you have to wait till you accumulate more HP from leveling or Hero Challenges. Thus the purpose of a guide like this is to show how to spend your Hero Points most effectively as you level, especially at low levels when they are scarce, to make leveling as @CornishRose.2815 said:If you boost a character to level 80 now, you have 80 Hero points to full up your skills ready and willing. If you then want to world complete, ie, go get all the in world Hero Points in central tyria (and HOT if you have it), you will then accrue enough Hero Points to almost walk into POF and almost go straight into the POF Class Specialisms. This is the difference

Returned to GW2 after 5 years. Had a 80 guardian and now leveled my Mesmer to 80 as well. I'm really fond of the new Elite classes but I still need to unlock all those hero points. I was wondering what the best approach is. Unlock all your hero points first before speccing into an elite class or rather stay core class until everything is unlocked.

5 days ago · Specialization slots are unlocked at levels 21, 45, and 71. Level 80 characters will have exactly enough hero points to train all core skills and specializations—completing hero challenges will allow you to train skills and specializations sooner. Excess hero points may be used to train elite specializations. Elite specializations “
1.) Start the Heart of Thorns Story. This will unlock the new areas and get your hero points faster and mastery system. 2.) There are no traditional quests like you are use to in wow talk to npc A, kill B, etc. XP is much more based around the events, killing mobs and getting hero points, mastery points, etc.
By the time you hit level 80. You will have enough hero points to unlock everything available. So for now just put points into things that seem interesting/fun to you. You'll get it all once you hit 80. I should mention you wont have enough hero points to unlock your elite spec right when you hit 80 if you have heart of thorns.
Yeah, it's a little much. Perhaps they'll introduce some other ways to gain hero points (via LS3, open world, something) - it's a little out of character to have to do ~80% (per u/tertle's math) of the skill challenges of the current open world simply to gain access to a trait line.

Guild Wars 2 Guide. Before training an elite specialization, you must be level 80, and each core training line must be completed. Fully unlocking a core specialization costs 60 hero points.

GW2 – what to do at 80? The endgame is an incredibly important part of all MMORPGs. In many older titles, it used to be the promised land - the grand prize waiting for the most persistent players at the end of the grueling grind. The newer games often allow the players to reach the level cap much easier and faster.
In GW2 open world & story everyone is everything and mostly DPS. Buy exotic Lvl 80 equiment from the TP. Acquire ascended jewelry (amu for laurels) Rest best for living Story (LS) 3&4 map Currencies. Get expansion and LS episodes.(after 100% map completion of core Tyria there are over 20 LS & expansion maps for Lvl 80)
In old GW2, you can progress/advance your character without having fine motor skills. In HoT, you can not level/advance your character just by playing the normal content. You have to acquire mastery and hero points. Most of those mastery/hero points are behind some kind of jumping puzzle. This is painful for me.
All hero challenges in HoT and PoF maps give 10 Hero Points. Both HoT and PoF have more than 25 Hero Challenges each, meaning that if you do all of them you will end up with excess hero points, on top of the 200 excess hero points from Core Tyria as the level-up rewards alone give you enough to max your core skills and traits. Notes. Eimall. Hall of Memories. Heart of the Mists. 10. Requires Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons. Heroics Notary. If you boost to 80, grab your espec, and proceed to do all the 1-80 story you’ll have plenty of time fighting easy enemies to learn what your skills do. If you also map complete (all hearts/poi/hero challenges/waypoints) core you’ll have way more than enough time. That’s a pretty big task.
